| On April 16, 2007 the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) awarded a contract to the team of Swinerton Builders, JGM and Siemens based upon a best value proposal process for the conversion of the existing lobby based checked baggage screening equipment at Terminals 1 through 3 at the Los Angeles International Airport to automated equipment which will integrate EDS screening equipment into the baggage conveyor sortation system of each terminal. To avoid passenger or airline disruption, LAWA divided the project into 34 construction phases, 42 baggage handling system phases, 10 baggage handling cutover phases and over 30 electrical system shut downs. JGM was responsible for developing the project schedule; integrating the work of all contractors into the 116 phases of the project as defined by LAWA. JGM also created and implemented the Contractor’s Quality Control program, which consisted of 3 specific phases of control for each definable feature of work; Preparatory; Initial or Startup; and Follow-up. JGM staff prepared 3D Coordination drawings integrating the Baggage Handling System with the construction elements of the existing and new structures. The 3D Drawings were then run through Navis Jetstream Pro to identify conflicts prior to the generation of final shop drawings. |
