| Ontario International Airport (ONT), one of the fastest growing airports
in the country, is expected to play a significant role for the economic
development of the Inland Empire. Two identical terminals were designed,
each with capacity to handle five million passengers annually, mitigating
demand imposed upon Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). JGM, in conjunction with a local firm, was responsible for terminal
design and planning, as well as on-site construction administration.
The design consists of a linear structure effectively utilizing the
narrow north/south site parallel to the airfield and allowing the integration
of a single level roadway and double-level terminal. Alternating enplaning
and deplaning functions are extended over the entire length of the terminal
area, resulting in added convenience for commuters and flexibility for
airline operations. The Master Plan includes space to build two more terminals and improved
cargo facilities. Designed for efficiency, imageability and constructability,
the Ontario Terminals were completed ahead of schedule and under budget. |
