The Alameda Corridor, a consolidated railroad link connecting the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to the central rail yards in Los Angeles was designated by Congress as a project of national significance early in its planning stages.

The rail corridor significantly reduces vehicular congestion by eliminating over 200 at-grade railroad/highway crossings. In addition, over 90 miles of branch line tracks for Union Pacific(UP) and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroads were relocated to a double track trench providing direct uninterrupted travel for cargo trains.

JGM was a member of the Alameda Corridor Engineering Team (ACET) which began corridor planning in the late 1980's and subsequently developed conceptual designs, conducted preliminary engineering, conducted highway and railroad capacity studies, evaluated alternative routes and designs, prepared environmental reports, acquired right-of-way and performed program management services for the development of the Alameda Corridor project. The contracting out process included the design-build of the 10 mile long “trench” in which the tracks were relocated below grade to eliminate at-grade crossings, as well as traditional design-bid-build work. These services culminated in the award winning $2.4 billion rail corridor that improves the lives of ordinary Angelinos as well as improving the shipment of goods to the balance of America.
