Last week marked the celebration of Construction Inclusion Week. In our participation, our VP of Business Development Yolanda Baber, M.B.S. had the opportunity to speak with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) about the importance of “Belonging in the Workplace.” As the president of the LA chapter of NAWIC, it was great to see her involvement on the national level during such an important event.
In her talk, Yolanda emphasized the significance of creating a sense of community, fostering diversity, and committing to ongoing inclusion efforts. Main points made in the talk included:
- Belonging can start simply, have a chat over coffee
- When you know someone’s story, you can find ways to connect
- Understanding others can help make a more cohesive and productive work environment.
When employees feel that they belong, they are more likely to be engaged, motivated, and productive. They feel comfortable expressing their opinions and ideas, which fosters innovation and creativity. Creating a workplace that promotes inclusion, belonging, diversity, equity, and inclusion is critical. It is not just the right thing to do, but it also makes good business sense. By promoting diversity and fostering a sense of community, companies can create a more positive and productive workplace for all employees.
