Carey K. Jenkins. AIA (1920-1987)
In the three decades that spanned his professional career, Carey Jenkins not only maintained a commitment to the development of a superior design organization but also to the ability to articulate the promise of an increasingly complex society. With the charm and quiet vigilance that was to be counted among the indelible traits of his character, Carey Jenkins established a distinguished and prolific presence in a variety of community, civic, and educational arenas. In a career that began in Los Angeles in 1950, he went on to create a legacy that would forever change the lives of all he touched. JGM salutes the leadership of its founder, Carey Jenkins, a man who encouraged people to dream, to challenge themselves and to have faith in their own abilities.
These works of art were created by USC School of Architecture’s first African American alumnus, Carey Jenkins. They not only reflect the natural talent, beauty, and style of JGM’s most valued architect, but these drawings also serve as a reminder of the superior quality their creator established within the heart of this firm where they rest. The intense level of detail and skill seen in his works has not only become a tradition at JGM, but it now serves as a standard for this firm to uphold and by doing so, it continues to honor the father of this corporation. Carey Jenkins symbolizes the foundation and pillars that support the structure upon which JGM was first erected. May his memory continue to live on during the life of JGM and extend forever throughout the lives of those affected by the firm he established.
