The Alliance College-Ready High Schools organization is a nonprofit charter management corporation in collaboration with California State University Los Angeles (CSULA), established a Math Science school on CSULA’s campus which is shared with CSULA. JGM provided architectural, engineering and construction administration services for Alliance’s first newly constructed facility on the CSULA Campus.
LACCD consists of nine independent campuses and two satellite campuses covering more than 800 square miles. The Proposition A/AA Bond Program will add more than 45 new academic and support buildings to the system and will modify large portions of the more than 5 million square feet of existing space. Among other unique aspects of the program, Proposition A/AA is the largest sustainable building program in the nation with more than 40 buildings planned to receive a LEED rating of silver or higher.
This new 2 story high school houses 500 students and over 30 employees. The facility has 37,500 s.f. of enclosed space consisting of 20 classrooms, 4 science laboratories, administrative office & conferences rooms, a gymnasium, library, professional development center, and a 14,000 s.f. open roof top patio that serves as the student lunch area.
This facility was designed, processed through DSA and constructed within 26 months. The building’s structure is load-bearing concrete block walls with steel beams and exposed polished concrete floors. The exterior finishes are red sandstones imported from India, stainless steel and aluminum metal panels, green-tinted glass, and colored cement plaster. It also has two separate steel-framed trellis roof structures for screening and shade capabilities. The facility is an environmental conscience through its use of waterless urinals and highly energy efficient glazing.
